Image Dating Comments

The image on this slide was captured sometime between 1951 and 1954.

The Continental Divide sign shows some of the same markings visible in images from 1951. It also includes additional markings which are not seen in those earlier photographs.

This Continental Divide sign was photographed above the entrance to the newly built Monarch Crest building sometime shortly after its completion in 1954.

Comments & Discussion

These signs stood in the area that would soon become the Monarch Crest Visitor Center.

New signs were added across the highway during the mid-1950s. The easiest way to tell which side of the highway the signs are on is to look at the directional arrows for each ocean.

Condition, Aging & Authenticity: The slide is mounted at an angle within the cardboard, but its film is in relatively good shape upon arrival into the archives.
