Image Dating Comments

The slide has a handwritten label of May 18, 1954. The snowpack in the background is consistent with a May snowpack.

Comments & Discussion

This sign was repainted in 1953. This image shows a small amount of weathering on the one year later. The markings shown in the enlarged image here can help to date other photos of this sign from the 1950s.

The stone marker to the right of the sign was added here in 1929. 

Condition, Aging & Authenticity: There are  slight crease markings across a portion of the slide’s mount, but no visible damage to the film. There are no obvious signs of aging on the cardboard. The ink for the date and the writing next to it were either different colors to begin with, or are showing different levels of oxidation now.
