Image Dating Comments

The inn was built in 1925. Wooden planks can still be seen on the right side of the image. These were likely either being used to finish construction of the inn, or to build the small cabin that was located to the side of the inn.

The lack of any railing between the two staircases is also useful in dating this image. Early datable Sanborn postcards showing the inn also include a railing that was added shortly after construction.

This was likely captured in the fall of 1925, or possibly sometime in 1926.

Comments & Discussion

That small gas pump station would have many signs over the years, including one that read “Highest Elevation Filling Station in the World.” This image captured the structure before any sign was added at all.

There is a higher resolution version of this image available upon request which has a slightly wider perspective and better detail.

Condition, Aging & Authenticity: No damage or obvious signs of aging on the negative.
