These ski resorts might look like they are close on a map, but the drive between them is about 2 hours in the winter. There is enough hiking terrain available at Telluride to keep you busy there, so no need to plan for a day at Silverton. However, if you want to go heliskiing and want to pay top dollar, the Silverton helicopter can just pick you up at the Telluride airport.
If you are lucky, you can find a vacation rental on the road up to the mountain from the town of Silverton, but there are virtually no private residences on this road. Silverton is likely going to be the closest that you can get.
